Sandra is the owner and co-director of Blue Steel for the past 17 years. She has been a coach for 5 years at St. Teresa School in Belleville, IL where they won the diocese 4 of the 5 years. She was the P.E.Volleyball director for youth and adult leagues for 23 years. She played in power leagues for over 40 years!
Sandra is married to Marvin Hayden (who also plays and coaches volleyball). She has 3 children who all played volleyball and still play to this day. She has ten grandchildren whom are ALL amazing athletes and love to watch and be around this sport.

Melissa played at Zion Lutheran School followed by Belleville East High School where her team placed 3rd in IHSA state tournament in 1995. She went to SWIC on full volleyball scholarship and Union University on full volleyball scholarship. The team was conference champs in ‘98 & ’99 and made an appearance at Nationals. Melissa was All Conference in 96, 97, 98, 99, All Tournaments, and All American awards ’98, ‘99, Dean’s List ’96, ‘97 and Who’s Who List ‘99, Player of the week in ‘98 & ‘99, NCCAAA All American ’98 & ‘99, coaching for 22 years, coached at St. Theresa’s with parents '95 & '96, Coached and played for VTN, Game Face & SWIL clubs, Union University assistant coach '01, currently coaching: O’Fallon High School-17 years, Blue Steel Club-17 years, and private training for 28 years.
Melissa is married to Ryan Massey. They have 4 children: Trent (15), Riley (14), Sutton (11), and Aniston (8) and ALL of my children play sports and they LOVE volleyball!

Girls Club Director and U15 Black Head Coach
Coach Brooke Kloess started her volleyball career at age 10 while playing club for Southwest Illinois Volleyball Club. While still playing club (& being a multi-sport athlete), she was a four year varsity starter at Red Bud High School. She has had several coaching experiences at both the junior high and high school level. This club season marks her 24th season coaching between junior high, high school, boys, and club. She just finished her 9th year as a varsity head high school coach. She is currently in her 5th year at Freeburg High School where she also teaches health, PE, and driver's ed. Coach Kloess also has an endorsement in special education and earned her Master's Degree in Educational Administration. She currently resides in Freeburg with her husband, Dan (assistant coach) and three daughters: Bristol (4 y/o), Kendall (3 y/o), Kylie (1 y/o), and their German Shepherd, Odie.

Coach Dan Kloess is in his 9th year of coaching volleyball. He coached boys volleyball at Belleville East for several years, where he is also a special education teacher. He's in his 3rd year of coaching club and 5th year of being the JV coach at Freeburg High School with his wife, Brooke. In addition to volleyball, he's coached football and basketball. Dan went to Althoff high school where he was a multi-sport athlete and continued his education and athletics into college. He earned his Master's Degree in Education at SIU-Edwardsville. He currently resides in Freeburg with his wife, Brooke (head coach), and three daughters: Bristol (4 y/o), Kendall (3 y/o), Kylie (1 y/o), and their German Shepherd, Odie.
U11 Black Head Coach
Erin is a high school and former junior high volleyball coach from Red Bud IL. Erin transitioned from collegiate player at McKendree University to high school/club coach at O'Fallon High School, and now is coaching in her hometown of Red Bud, IL and serving players in grades 2-12. Erin is on a mission to mold her players from their first touch on the ball all the way through competitive high school play. Fortunate to spend 13 years in the classroom as a social studies teacher, and 17 years as a high school, junior high, and club volleyball coach, Erin loves to learn alongside her players and assistant coaches. Erin holds a bachelor's degree from McKendree University and a masters in Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
U13 Blue Head Coach
Amber Hardy found her passion for coaching in 2006 when she began assisting her parents in coaching the 8th grade boys volleyball teams at St. Clare School, leading them to a Diocesan Championship that year. Amber transitioned into a head coach position at St. Clare in 2008 and since then has coached a variety of teams across grades 5th through 8th for both the boys and girls programs, oftentimes leading more than 1 team during a season. In her 10 years as a head coach at St. Clare, she has led multiple teams to a top 3 finish for the Diocese (when coaching 6th or 8th grade), and all of her teams have brought home at least one tournament trophy through each season. This past year, Amber’s 8th grade girls team won the SIJHSAA Class M Regional title to advance to State for the first time the school’s history.
In 2017, Amber began coaching for the Blue Steel Volleyball Club, assisting the 15 EDGE team her first year, and running drills for the 14U open gyms and tryouts last year. She is looking forward to bringing her years of experience at St. Clare, her enthusiastic and supportive coaching style, and overall love of the game to the Blue Steel VBC 13U Blue team this year!
In her spare time outside of coaching, Amber and her husband, Keith, play in numerous indoor and outdoor volleyball leagues and tournaments, are active with their church’s youth group programs, play rec softball, and chase around their 3 year old son Kaine and 7 month old Dallas.
U14 Black Head Coach
Playing Background: Stacey was a 4 year varsity starter as an outside hitter at PBL High School. She was awarded as an All Honorable Mention All State Designee. Her club experience included playing for Illini Elite. As a Division I walk on she trained with the Illinois State Redbirds and served as a practice player.
Stacey began coaching during high school, assisting with junior high programs and working camps. As a college student she started her official career at as a student assistant at Normal U-High under the direction of Hall of Fame coach Char Lehnan.
Her teaching and coaching then led her to positions at Tr-Point High School, where she led the school to the first ever back to back super sectional births and conference titles. Her next stop was at Cissna Park High School-CPCI Co-op where she won 5 consecutive Regionals, 3 consecutive Sectionals, and 5 conference titles. She then traveled to the STL region where she began a new chapter of coaching under friend, Charlie Rodham at Belleville West, serving a 1 year interim head coaching position where she led West to a SWC Conference title and a Sectional Final. In recent years, Stacey served as the head coach at Belleville East for 4 seasons, bringing back 3 consecutive seasons of 20+ wins in her tenure.
She also brings club coaching experience with her, serving as the 16s coach for 18 years for the northern Illinois volleyball club, Sports Performance. She has been coaching for Blue Steel VBC for the past 4 years at various levels.
She served as a camp clinician at the University of Illinois 1999-2003.
Her career coaching record is 323-85 over the past 20 years.

Stacey is a mom of 3 daughters and is married to a fellow teacher/coach TJ Posey raising their family in Ofallon. She received her Bachelors Degree of Science from Illinois State University and her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership/Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. She currently teaches at Belleville West High School and is also involved in numerous professional organizations promoting school leadership, civic development, and volunteerism.
U14 Blue Head Coach
Went to high school at Southwestern High school and then college at SIUE. Coaching career- Coached girls softball 5 years, 3 at Central Jr. High. Coached baseball 2 years at Central Jr. High and 1 year at Southwestern High. Coached volleyball (boys and girls) at Central Jr. High for 4 years, boys and girls track for 2 years. Otherwise- Bachelors Degree in kinesiology from SIUE, Taught as a sub at District 118 and 201 for 11 years, Firefighter for the City of Belleville for 20 years. 2 daughters (Rubee and Lairra) who are at O'fallon High school. 4 step sons. Ran 3 marathons. Don't run any more. 😂
U14 Blue Assistant Coach
Brianna played at Belle valley, followed by Belleville East High school. She goes to SIUE now and continues to play on intermediate and sand teams. While playing at Belleville East she was also able to find a passion for teaching the game. By coaching younger kids in camps, managing the boys volleyball team for two years, and assisting a few select coaches during different practices for fundamentals of the game. This is her first year coaching for blue steel and she is very excited to be apart of the team!!
In her spare time she is studying kinesiology as a premed student at SIUE, and she is also a member of the United States Navy currently stationed at scott Air Force base working in their medical and dental spaces.
U14 Blue Assistant Coach
Brittany will be joining her twin sister, Brianna, to assist coaching with Blue Steel this season. Brittany has a history of playing the game, but this will be her first year coaching. She played volleyball at BelleValley Middle School, she carried on to play the libero position all throughout her High School career at Belleville East, and has continued to play for a few sand leagues. Throughout her experience at Belleville East she was able to help teach younger girls during the volleyball camps provided by the High School. She has always had a passion to play the game and now she can’t wait to join our team and coach! When she is not coaching Brittany is a Nursing student at SIUE working to get her BSN and become a NICU Nurse.
U14 White Head Coach
Kayla was a four year varsity player at New Athens High School. During high school, she played club for St. Louis CYC and competed in the U.S. Junior Olympics Open Division in 2006 and 2007. In 2006 her team finished top 10 in the nation in the highest level of 17U volleyball. After high school, Kayla earned a volleyball scholarship to the University of Missouri-St. Louis where she played for four years for the Tritons. In 2010, her senior season, the Tritons earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. From UMSL she received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
Beginning in 2011, Kayla coached freshman volleyball at Red Bud High School. In 2012 she began teaching at Smithton School and became head coach of the grade school volleyball program and is now in her 7th season. In 2016 she became the freshman coach at Freeburg High School. She finished coaching the 2019 season with a win/loss record of 26-3. In 2018 she graduated from McKendree University with a Master’s in Reading. Kayla currently resides in Smithton, IL with her husband, Mike, and three children: Adler (6), Lennon (4), and Sully (1).
15 Blue Head Coach
Kelsey started playing volleyball in 5th grade in Waterloo, IL. Once she started she never stopped. She played for her school and clubs over the years. In High School she was a 4-year varsity starter and multi-sport athlete for the Bulldogs. She went on to play college volleyball for 3 years at McKendree University where she also received her Bachelors in Psychology and minor in Sports Psychology.
In her offseason at McK, she coached club volleyball. This year marks her 12th year of coaching. Along with coaching club volleyball, she began coaching at Gibault Catholic High School for the last four years. She started as the JV coach and transitioned into the Varsity Head Coach position the past two seasons.
Kelsey also works full time at Nestle Purina PetCare and resides in Swansea, IL with her husband, Derek, and one year old daughter, Bailey. When not coaching she loves to travel to Branson (her favorite place!) and play sand volleyball with her husband and friends!

I am a 26 year military member (7 years active duty Air Force & 19 years with the Illinois Air National Guard - still there). I have been stationed at F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY, at Kunsan AB in Korea, and Scott AFB in Illinois. While stationed at those locations I played on multiple traveling base basketball and volleyball teams. Three year coach of girls lacrosse for the O'Fallon Styx before getting the opportunity to coach with Blue Steel VBC (15u Blue in 2017/2018 and 13u Blue in 2018/2019). Currently reside in Troy with my wife, Jenn, and two daughters Chase (18 y/o Blue Steel Alumni) and Hadley (15 y/o).

My name is Becky Carter. I am from Belleville, Illinois. I played volleyball in high school on Blue Steel with Melissa and Lauren as my coaches. I have coached volleyball on and off since 2016 while getting my bachelors and masters degree. I still like to play volleyball whenever I can.
My name is Darryl Carter. I am from Santa Clara, California. I started playing volleyball in high school during my junior and senior year as an outside hitter. I joined the Air Force right out of high school, and I tried out for the Airforce Men’s Volleyball Team as a Libero. Through the Air Force I have been able to play with and meet some very talented volleyball players at the bases I have been stationed. I enjoy playing in competitive volleyball tournaments and have traveled all over the country to play the sport I love. I have played in grass tournaments, sand tournaments, and indoor tournaments all over. I consider myself a very versatile player on the court and have experience in all positions.
Boys U12 Black Head Coach
This will be Kai’s second year head coaching the 12U Blue Steel boys. He has been playing volleyball at a high level for over 20 years. Kai played men’s club volleyball for SIUE as well as men’s gateway USAV club volleyball at the B/BB level. Kai has his doctorate in pharmacy and is a research and drug information pharmacist in St. Louis.

My name is Sam Stamper and I’m 29 years old from Belleville , Illinois.
So I grew up watching volleyball at a very young age because my older sister had played. I was lucky enough to start playing volleyball in the 4th grade at Blessed Sacrament grade school. I continued on to play in High school where I hit outside and I played club for Southern Heat where I played Libero. I eventually got a scholarship to lindenwood Belleville where I played libero as well. I have about 7 years of coaching under my belt and I range from coaching 12 year olds all the way to 18 year olds. Volleyball is a major passion of mine and I still play when I can. I really enjoy spreading my knowledge and skills to the younger generation.

Koester began playing volleyball in 4th grade at Zion Lutheran School in Belleville, IL. She continued her playing career as a 4 year varsity starter at O'Fallon Township High School. While there, she received numerous all tournament team awards as well as first team all conference her senior year. She played club volleyball for Blue Steel for 7 years and was part of the first team to go to Nationals. She started her coaching career a few years ago with Blue Steel with the 18s team as an assistant coach and served a tenure for the 17s as head coach. She currently attends McKendree University in Lebanon, IL.

Played at Oakville High School where we went to state semi finals my junior and senior year we went 35-0 and won state. I started coaching juniors at Queen of All Saints, served as JV boys head coach and assistant varsity coach, I coached 2 years at K Elites Volleyball club and helped run a youth sports franchise called i9 sports. I have 5 years of indoor and sand referee experience. Currently, I am the JV Boys volleyball coach at Oakville HS.

Alec began playing volleyball in fifth grade at Saint Teresa school in Belleville, Illinois. He currently plays on the Ofallon Township High School volleyball team. He has played club volleyball for High Performance for 5 years. Alec participated in the 2019 Beach Volleyball Nationals. Alec is currently a junior at OTHS, and over his volleyball career he has played as a setter and right side hitter. He has worked as a referee for sand volleyball and enjoys participating in all aspects of Voleyball.

During the beginning of my senior year, I was offered an opportunity to continue playing volleyball at the collegiate level and decided to continue my career at Missouri Baptist University. I have been a starter there for the past 3 years and hope to continue this my senior year. My first two years playing here, we have made it to the semifinals at nationals. In my first 2 years combined, my teammates and I only lost 3 games during both seasons. At some point we were also ranked #1 in the nation during both seasons. As for coaching experience, I have assisted in coaching the OTHS varsity team for the past 3 years.
